Jay-Z
Attempts have been made to link Freemasonry, the Illuminati and satanism to Shawn Corey Carter (1969/12/04- ), better known by his stage name Jay-Z, a financially successful American hip hop artist and entrepreneur. For example, a rhyme-motivated pronounciation of "maison" as "mason" in "Whose going to run this town tonight" has led Christian rapper Lavyss to label him a freemason. The widely quoted Vigilant Citizen website claims:
"Masters of the Craft" is a 100% Masonic saying and the All-Seeing Eye of the Great Architect depicted here is directly taken from Masonic works. Notice also the secret handshake depicted in a circle.
The all-seeing eye, of course, is not uniquely masonic, nor is the image of clasped hands but what is curious is the image of two hands forming a triangle or pyramid. Jay-Z is often photographed framing one eye between his two hands, leading to comparisons to the US Great Seal and its mistaken identification with the Illuminati.
Whether or not Jay-Z promoted the association with the Illuminati in his choice of images depicted on his "Roc-Nation" clothing label (above), the controversy has prompted his denial on several occasions: Ed Lover's radio show and Rick Ross's Teflon Don 2010 album.
