HENRY JOSIAH DE FOREST
HISTORY INDEX
HENRY J. DEFOREST
Henry J. De Forest was born in New Brunswick. His first wife was some twenty years older than himself and when I remember them, his wife was blind.
They had travelled extensively in England in Ewrope where Mr. DeForest had studied art. Mrs. DeForest had a nephew, I believe a Dr. Newcombe, living in Vancouver. At that time they lived at 1871 W. Broadway but Mr. DeForest had been in Vancouver at least since 1898.
Mr. DeForest was tall and distinguished looking and wore a goatee. Their frame, two-storey house was rather dark inside and was housed his numerous oil paintings. I don not recall his ever teaching painting.
Henry DeForest died in Calgary where had gone with his second wife. He is buried in the Masonic Cemetery at Mountain View Cemetery.
