Savona Cemetery

Savona cemetery has not been surveyed, although there is one noteworthy grave marker for Giovani Velatti in Steelhead Provincial Park on the other side of the river.

Of the 27 grave markers posted to Find A Grave, from 136 recorded interments, only one displays a square and compasses. Considering "Archie" McKinlay's career with the Hudson's Bay Company, it is likely that he was initiated as a lewis in Scotland before relocating to Manitoba in 1831 and rising to the rank of Chief Trader before leaving the company in Oregon in 1851. Moving to Lac la Hache in 1862, where he farmed until 1890, he would have had little opportunity to join a masonic lodge although his masonic affiliation apparently meant a lot to him.
