Western Regional Administrator for the Canadian Department of Veterans Affairs until 1956, George Cleveland Derby also served his community as chairman of the Alcoholism Foundation of British Columbia, director of the B.C. Children's Hospital and director of Grace Hospital, Vancouver.
A founding member of the Grand Lodge Board of Benevolence in 1923, he served as chairman from 1938 to 1951. The George Derby Health and Occupational Centre in Burnaby was named in his honour.
