When Marshall sees a reluctant witness hide his masonic ring, he gains his trust, and coöperation, by reciting words that the viewer is intended to assume are masonic. [00:27:23]
Marshall: "I know you, Norman. I know you understand. We build our house on these manifold truths: rough hewn and perfect, like the ashlars of Solomon's temple."
Norman: "What?"
Marshall: "He is to be condemned, but also deeply pitied. Wrong and injustice once done cannot be undone, but are eternal in their consequences."
Norman: "Who sent you?"
Marshall: "Without verity, there is no justice."
