An active Freemason in India and a member of Quatuor Coronati Lodge from January 6, 1888, Whymper is remembered today for his reproduction, in facsimile of the Regius MS. According to H.R.H. the Prince of Wales, "He was a man of mark in and out of Masonry, a Companion of the Order of the British Empire, a Masonic Savant and a practical Mason."
