[Dr. John Stith Pemberton]
July 8, 1831 - August 16, 1888
Georgia pharmacist and lieutenant colonel in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War, Dr. Pemberton was a practical pharmacist and chemist of great skill, active all his life in medical reform, and a respected businessman. His laboratories continue to operate as part of the Georgia State Department of Agriculture.
In 1866 he developed the formula for the soft drink, Coca-Cola®, which he sold for $1,750 in 1887.
