James Welton Horne
[James Welton Horne]
c 1855 - 1922
Vancouver pioneer real estate developer James Welton Horne served on Vancouver city council, chaired the parks board for six years, founded the Stanley Park zoo at his own expense, and served for four years as MLA for Vancouver.
Best known for creating the town of Brandon, Manitoba, he relocated to Vancouver in either 1885 or 1886. By 1891 the Vancouver World reported him to be "the heaviest individual property owner in Vancouver".
Buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Vancouver.
