(By one of them.)
Who gets appointed every year,
Grand Master's orders to make clear,
And, visiting Lodges, brethren cheer ?
The District Deputy.
Who reconciles the friend and foe,
Thought fast by some, by some thought slow,
The man who ought to know, you know :
The District Deputy.
Who is expected to be at
All gatherings, and to have quite pat
The law on this, the law on that?
The District Deputy.
Who often shoulders other's cares.
His honours always meekly bears;
And never, never puts on airs?
The District Deputy.
Who, by experience, wide would teach
The Lodges how success to reach,
Can't sing a song, can't make a speech?
The District Deputy.
Who, tireless as Old Ocean's foam,
From Lodge to Lodge will nightly roam,
And catches rats when he gets home?
The District Deputy.
Who may, perhaps, not be so bright,
But tries to do the thing that's right,
Term ended, drops clean out of sight?
The District Deputy.
