Pogo (1949)
Walt Kelly (1913/08/25-1973/10/18) wrote and illustrated over eighty comic books and paperbacks featuring Pogo and the inhabitants of Okefenokee swamp. First appearing as a spear carrier in a comic book feature about 1943, by May of 1949 Pogo was appearing in a regular comic strip in about four newspapers. Before Walt Kelly died in 1973 his comic strip, Pogo, appeared in almost six hundred newspapers. The strip was continued by other artists and writers until 1993.
