The Freemason (2013)
The tagline for this movie reinforces the stereotypical conspiracy theory trope:
"Freemasons don't control everything, only the things that matter."
Joseph James, principal of the feature film production and distribution company Joseph James Films, promotes himself as a 32nd degree Freemason and, from his website, appears to believe that his movie should be screened in masonic lodge halls. The use of Freemasonry as a backdrop to this film, though, appears to be gratuitous:
"A wealthy banker lies ritualistically and brutally murdered. The banker's daughter and only heir, Rana (Alex McKenna), calls upon Cyrus Rothwell (Randy Wayne), a brilliant but eccentric freelance writer, to assist in the investigation. Teaming up with veteran homicide detective Leon Weed (Sean Astin), they suddenly find themselves thrust into the cryptic world of Freemasonry pitted against a killer searching for a legendary relic, shrouded by hundreds of years of myth and mystery."
It seems that the movie was popular enough to justify a sequel, with principal filming scheduled for late in 2015.
