A Gun, a Car, a Blonde (1997)
When asked by Rick Stone why she chose to hire him, Jade Norfleet replies: "Let's just say I heard you know what you're doing, and that you're on the square." [00:26:00] Rarely heard in contemporary films, such expressions were common in 1940s film noir, a genre imitated by this movie.
In The Late Show (1977), another homage to film noir, Art Carney says to Bill Macy : "That's the cops. They'll be here in a couple of minutes. Now either you start to play it on the square with me or I'll feed you to them." [00:21:00]
