The USA Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) introduced a logo for their Information Awareness Office (IAO), incorporating a representation of the all-seeing eye and pyramid found on the reverse of the USA Great Seal.
The IAO was established in January 2002 to bring together several DARPA projects focused on applying surveillance and information technology to track and monitor threats to American national security by creating enormous computer databases to gather and store the personal information of everyone in the United States, including personal emails, social network analysis, credit card records, phone calls, medical records, and numerous other sources, without any requirement for a search warrant.
Losing its funding in 2003, several IAO projects continued to be run under different names.
