Production designer Albin Grau [1894/12/22 - 1942/10/?] is claimed to have been associated with an unidentified mystical fraternity. The titlepage to a book on vampires displays an all-seeing-eya, and and John Gottowts character, Professor Bulwer, is described in the credits as a Paracelsian. The name Bulwer may also be significant. Prana-Film, created by Enrico Dieckmann and Albin Grau in 1921, was intended for a series of films on the mystical and supernatural but went bankrupt, leaving Nosferatu as its only legacy. The first vampire movie was Károly Lajthays Drakula halála (1921).
