For the years 1874 to 1882, recommendations for recognition were received from either the Grand Master, the Grand Secretary, the Committee on Foreign Relations or the Committee on Foreign Correspondence.
In 1884 the report was accepted from the Board of General Purposes. Between 1946 and 1962 recommendations were made by the Committee on Jurisprudence, which recommended that no new recognitions be extended. In 1946 the Report of the Committee on Jurisprudence [Proceedings, 1946. p. 150] laid out a set of "Basic Principles for Grand Lodge Recognition," and in 1953 they made the following statement:

"Immediately upon the formation of this Grand Lodge in 1871, application for Fraternal Recognition was made to all of the then recognized Grand Lodges of the World including Continental Europe. There were but four of these latter who accorded us recognition, namely, Hungary, Beyreuth, Rumania and Zur Zon. A second application was made to those who had not previously responded, but still no reply. It was felt then and your Committee feel now that the Standard of Freemasonry in this Jurisdiction is such that we should not have to beg for it. The four above-mentioned have ceased operation." The Committee on Fraternal Relations was formed in 1963 to make recommendations to Grand Lodge regarding recognition of sister jurisdictions.
