COX, Palmer, author and artist; b. Granby, Que., 28 April, 1840; 5th s. of Michael Cox, farmer, and pensioner of the English army; unmarried. Educ.: Granby Academy; went to California, 1863; followed railroading, contracting, etc.; wrote for newspapers; came to New York, 1875; took up writing and illustrating for childrens magazines, and also humorous books. Publications: Squibs of Everyday Life, 1874; Hans Von Pelters trip to Gotham, 1878; How Columbus found America, 1878; That Stanley, 1878; The Brownies, their Book, 1887; Queer People with Wings and Stings, 1888; Comic Yarns.
