Frederick John Hume
[Frederick John Hume]
May 2, 1892 - February 17, 1967
Originally from New Westminster, Frederick Hume served as Vancouver mayor for 1951-58.
A wealthy philanthropist and nine-year mayor of New Westminster, Hume donated his salary to charity while he was mayor of Vancouver. He founded CJOR radio (as CFXC) in 1924, and owned and operated the Vancouver Canucks from 1962 until his death. More than 2,000 mourners attended his funeral.
