Wallace McLeod

Dr. Wallace Edmond McLeod was a professor of Ancient Greek Language and Literature at Victoria College from 1962 until his retirement as Emeritus Professor of Classics in 1996, and a researcher, writer and lecturer on all aspects of Freemasonry. Prestonian Lecturer for the United Grand Lodge of England in 1986, he served as master of Quatuor Coronati Lodge No. 2076 ER in 1983, and as president of the Philalethes Society in 1992.

Born in East Toronto, he graduated from Victoria College at the University of Toronto in 1953 with a degree in Classics (Greek and Latin) and earned his master's degree and doctorate at Harvard University.

McLeod authored eleven books and numerous pamphlets, articles, and book reviews on Freemasonry, three for his Grand Lodge: Beyond the Pillars (1973), Meeting the Challenge (1980), and Whence Come We (1980).

He was appointed to the Board of General Purposes of the Grand Lodge of Canada in the Province of Ontario in July of 1972, where he served until 1982, continuing as an honorary member from 1989 until 1993, and receiving the rank of Honorary Past Grand Senior Warden. He also served for 15 years as the Grand Historian from 1980 to 1995.

He was described in the Philalethes magazine as "one of the most important Masonic academics in the history of Freemasonry in Canada: a Freemason internationally renowned for his lectures, research, books, pamphlets and articles, and his extensive involvement with Freemasonry on both sides of the Atlantic, in Australia, New Zealand and India."
